Marketing, branding and advertising represents a big part of what will determine your overall sales success in business. Focusing on resources that will help you build your brand, establish your credibility and reach people who are interested in what you have to offer is key.
Here is an over view of a few of those resources which can help you make great strides towards achieving the sales goals you have set for yourself and your business venture.
First off, before you start advertising anywhere, make sure you have a professional and consistent image put together for your business. 99Designs is a wonderful resource for logo creation and all things creative branding. If nothing else, you can get some great ideas just by perusing the site.
Once you have that aspect taken care of then start getting the good word out. Here are some great places to start.
Local papers - Contact the Editor to see if they would be interested in your writing information pieces that would be of interest to their readers. You can also place a display or classified add as well. These small papers are always looking for valuable information to provide to their readers. You may be able to provide them with what they are looking for while helping to promote your business simultaneously.
Having a blog where you can refer them to previous blog posts or samples of your writing can really come in handy. We’ll address your online presence and blogging below.
Create a flyer or brochure - Then hire high schoolers to distribute throughout local neighborhoods for you. Ask other non-competing businesses if they would be kind enough to place your flyers on their counter tops. Perhaps even offer a first time discount or "locals discount" which offers the business an opportunity to give their clients a deal as a result of sharing your flyer or brochure. Vistaprint is a great resource for inexpensive and easy to put together print materials.
Get active on Yelp - Claim your business on Yelp here. According to the Yelp business help page. "Millions of people make purchasing decisions on Yelp every month. Once you claim your free Yelp Business Page, starting Yelp Ads is a great way to reach new customers. In fact, in a recent BCG study, business owners that advertised with Yelp saw an average of $23,000 in annual revenues from Yelp, $15,000 more than business owners who only claimed their free Yelp Business Page."
Become a member of your local Chamber of Commerce - According the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business organization representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions. Our members range from mom-and-pop shops and local chambers to leading industry associations and large corporations. They all share one thing--they count on the Chamber to be their voice in Washington, D.C."
Find your local Chamber here, join and start to get involved in events, meet new people and establish yourself within your local community.
Get your website up and make blogging a priority - Websites never sleep. A website will allow your business or organization to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Having a website is the equivalent of having an employee working around the clock - even weekends and holidays! Websites are not local, they are global. With a website, you can take your goods and services across the U.S. and around the world, if you so choose. Start blogging consistently in order to build your positioning as a leader in your field and establish yourself as a trusted expert.
Get you Facebook Fan Page up and active - You can find step-by-step instructions on how to set up your Facebook business fan page here and some helpful ideas on running Facebook contests in order to build your Likes and followers here.
Create, wear and sell company t-shirts and assorted goodies -Zazzle is a great place to create to your heart’s content. Wear your goods daily, offer them for sale in your shop. Don’t start out with a huge amount of inventory, just a few things to help fine tune your image and offer your clients something fun to purchase and remember you by.
As you start to pull all these pieces together, you’ll start to see your image firm up nicely and your potential clients make their way to you in person and on line!
