Welcome to the fast paced world of internet marketing. Perhaps you know you need to do it; but, quite frankly, you may have no idea where to start.
The rules change often...sometimes daily. One day you are playing tennis with a tennis ball, the next day it's a hockey puck, then to spice things up a bit - we will be using a bowling ball beginning tomorrow...have fun with that!!
If someone is selling irrefutable rules, templates or a blueprint for success with your internet marketing and social media outreach; or you are being offered a plug and play software application which will handle everything for you, think again..
"But wait!?" you say, "Everyone is selling a blueprint of some sort." "This is how it's done!" "All I have to do is duplicate what they did and success and riches are mine!" "Right?"
Um...wrong. Completely and entirely.
Let me explain.
Here's an incredibly impressive infographic by Pamorama which captures the development of the internet over the past 10 years. This was created in 2012...it's already outdated, yet still...quite spectacular.
The fact of the matter is...it is a rocket ship which is being built on the way up. It is global in scope, has texture, depth and the ability to communicate globally in ways which we have never experienced. This force cannot be harnessed with a mere template or blueprint...sorry.
As a former classmate of mine once said "it's like managing mercury" or "cat herding."
Here's the real story...
In terms of making an impact with your online presence, it's all about the level of commitment and determination you have; along with the connections you make, the teams you build and whether or not the market wants what you have to sell.
Trends...yes. Definitives...absolutely not.
The key factor in business success now and in the future is ... how well do you adapt to change?
In terms of whether or not you have what it takes to go it alone...think...
How much time do you have to devote to educating yourself as to the latest tools and tactics, creating and testing strategies, researching and creating content to share, perfecting a back end funnel to capture names and build your prospect list, encouraging and managing resulting PR, etc.?
How good are you at it? Do you love it?
I'll share a secret with you. I detest Excel, Yep, spread sheets are not my friend, neither are cords, wires and electrical equipment. I recently changed internet service and thought I was going to cry when I unpacked three boxes of cords, clamps and equipment. I was able to pull everything apart (old stuff) and get the new stuff up and running, but if I needed to do that on a daily basis, I would definitely hire someone who could take that stress away from me and get things squared away faster and more efficiently than I can.
Internet marketing is something that you really need to love, respect and immerse yourself in, in order to stay relevant. If you are all about it, that's great; and I mean that. Sharing tools, success strategies and having conversations about the future potential of this amazing industry with like minded people brings me great joy. But if you think of it as boxes of wires, clamps and cords that you'd rather not deal with. Find someone who will do the unpacking, set up and management for you ;)
