Getting People to Know, Like and Trust You in Business - Using Social Media to Build Your Tribe and Get Your Message Heard
Whether you are a car mechanic, personal trainer, M.D., or business owner, the interactions you have with your potential patients, clients and customers go a long way towards whether or not they will enjoy their experience and subsequently recommend you to their friends and family.
Today, business is all about transparency. Consumers want to know what you believe in, your philosophies, how you give back to the community and how committed you are to your craft.
By sharing yourself with the public you give them a glimpse as to who you are; and by building a Tribe of followers, you create a platform with which to share your good with the world and get people to know, like and trust you.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you begin or enhance your online presence via Social Media.
Be authentic - Make sure who you are is clearly represented. If you are a vegetarian, talk about it. If you love to read, hike, bike, garden...share that. Share your interests and people will respond by gravitating towards your message. I personally stay away from politics, religion...the standard "no win" topics, rather than judging ... sharing is a great place to be coming from.
Don't ramble on and on about the greatness of you or your product - This isn't a long winded commercial nor is it a job interview. Think of it as a place where you are looking to share helpful information with people who are really interested in hearing it. Before putting anything out there, think...is this beneficial? Helpful? Funny? Inspiring? Thought provoking? Then great! If not, perhaps you should rethink the post.
Be consistent - Don't think that you can post once a week and build loyalty and friendships. Daily engagement is necessary to make that happen. And keep in mind that many platforms (soon all) are a "pay to play" game. Just because you are posting valuable content, it does not mean that it will be seen. Placing ads and boosting posts are all a part of the program now, so plan to spend some time educating yourself or get someone to help you.
Share the wealth - Don't forget to follow, comment, share posts and build relationships with other people or organizations within your niche. As you do this, you build trust...sharing content is the name of the game, so if you do it for them...as you bring valuable information to the table, they may choose to do the same for you, which broadens your reach and potentially increases your followers.
Choose a few places of visibility and make it great. Don't try to be all things to all people or hang out where your Tribe isn't. - There are bright and shinny objects in Social Media everywhere you turn. New platforms, new technology and new crazes. My advise it to learn where your audience hangs out and create the best space for yourself right there; rather than hopping from thing to thing...which dilutes your efforts and wastes your time. Here is an article on Social Media, Which Platform is Right for You which will clarify the "Where is my target audience hanging out?" question.
If you are not already set up on Social Media, here's an article which covers the How To's of setting up your Social Media presence, complete with instruction and links to take you to where you need to go in order to pull it all together.
A few simple rules will help you get started and on your way to building new relationships, friendships, a new potential client base as well as the ability to communicate with your existing clients or patients.
Put together a plan and get started today...your future self will thank you!
