Chaos to Clarity - How to Rise Above, Grow Your Business and Win!

As a business owner, at any given time you are dealing with finding new clients, keeping the clients you have, billing, payroll, marketing, forecasting, doing the actual work for the service or product you are selling; among many other things. If you have been a business owner or Entrepreneur for any length of time, you've come to the realization that this is your path. The constant ebb and flow, unanticipated fire storms and coming up with the best ways to handle any given situation is all a part of the journey.


But when does it end and how can it all make sense? Here's the lowdown...it never ends.


But it can make sense if you take a step back every once in a while to reflect.


You may be in the midst of launching a new product, trying to build your mailing list and dealing with manufacturing and order fulfillment challenges simultaneously, but it can all make sense when you keep your focus on what is truly important.


One of my favorite quotes is by the late, great Stephen Covey who said...
"The main thing, is to keep the main thing, the main thing." 


So how do you actually do that when there are flaming arrows coming at you all day, every day?


  • Manage your time like it is the most important resource you have, because it is. Get rid of distractions...pouring through meaningless emails, wasting time online, holding meetings without specific objectives. Choose the top three things that would make the greatest impact on your business and get them done ASAP each day. 

  • Use the reminder feature on your phone to capture ideas or must do's daily. With so many things coming at you each day, do not rely solely on your memory to get you through. Remind yourself to make that call or research that opportunity; if you are on the road a lot, your phone can be your best personal assistant. Using notes, reminders and your calendar can be a life saver and help you manage chaos in a much smoother way.

  • Look for and implement ways to systematize things that you do regularly.  When you bring a new client on board, it is quite likely that you follow similar steps with each one to get them taken care of. You may have a certain ways that you like to schedule and roll out your newsletters, Social Media, marketing or customer follow up; if this is the case, then document as much of this process as possible, so that these tasks can be picked up and performed (well) by anyone capable of following your instructions. 

  • Schedule regular reflection or down time. Sometimes the answers to our most pressing challenges, with regard to our businesses, are not found in front of a keyboard or on the face of our phone. Get outside, walk..hike...head to the mountains or the beach for an afternoon, just to gain a little perspective. One of my favorite ways of connecting at work, is to hold walking meetings. This is where you take a walk or hike and discuss the challenge at hand. Engaging your body awakens your mind in ways that sitting alone cannot do, give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. 


Taking control of the things you have an impact on is critical to the growth and success of your business. Rolling with what you cannot, determines your overall satisfaction in life.
