From time to time, we all find ourselves facing challenges that appear insurmountable at the time. Impossible to overcome and completely devastating.
Wow...that’s upbeat! I’m sure you’d love to continue down this rabbit hole with me…
But I digress.
Problems, or “challenges” as I’d rather call them, are opportunities for growth.
Some people enjoy lamenting about the difficulties they currently face. They seem to soak up and find joy in every bit of misery they can dwell in. Finding solutions are not the objective, having a reason why they are not succeeding (the challenge) is a blessing because now they have a legitimate excuse as to why they are not living up to their fullest potential.
But, you aren’t one of “those people” are you?
You look at challenges for what they are, not greater than they are. They are, in fact, an opportunity to grow and overcome; so how do we get there as quickly as possible?
Ask great questions.
Your brain is a miracle. We don’t fully understand everything it is capable of, but we are leaning more and more each day; and what is becoming apparent is that, what we think about and how we approach challenges (whether it’s a physical illness or logistical obstacle) has a great deal to do with the outcome achieved.
To follow are 19 questions you can ask yourself which will help you see things as they are...not greater than they are. This is an abbreviated and modified version of 101 Incredible Coaching Questions from The School of Coaching Mastery.
If you take the time to print them out and actually write out the answers that come to mind, you will have a fresh and insightful perspective from which to form your action plan and go from frustration and overwhelm to positive action steps towards solutions.
On a scale of 1 – 10 how honest have you been with yourself about this challenge? With others?
How can you turn this around and have better results next time?
How would you like things to be?
What’s getting in the way?
What’s stopping you?
Are you focused on what’s wrong or what’s right?
Is that a story or the truth?
What will really make the biggest difference here?
What’s the benefit of this problem?
Who else is this hurting?
What does your intuition tell you about this?
Do you have a gut feeling about this?
Have you solved challenges like this before?
What could happen if you changed your belief about this challenge, what would be possible?
What’s stopping you from taking action?
Who wouldn’t like it if you succeeded?
How would your life be transformed if you changed this right now?
If you don’t change this, what will it cost you in the long run?
What’s the most resourceful choice here?
