A close friend of our family attempted to commit suicide two weeks ago. She is 16, beautiful and has so much good to share with the world.
Thankfully she was unsuccessful.
When I saw her for the first time afterwords I hugged her so tight I thought she may break, but it was I who broke, as memories of making it through my own dark times came flooding through my mind.
We all have to walk the dark path from time to time. It is a part of the human experience. I remember times when I really thought my best days were behind me and that everything I touch fails, so why keep reaching out?
But the dark path lead me to where I am now which is in a place of extreme gratitude and happiness for everything and everyone I have in my life. I am so very blessed!
Would I appreciate "now" as much as I do, had I not gone through challenge? I don't think so. I think challenge makes us stronger, more appreciative and hopefully more wise as a result of the experience.
If you currently find yourself on a dark path, know that you are loved and supported even though it may not feel like it at the time.
Keep walking forward, be gentle and loving with yourself.
Continuously point yourself towards the light and you will get there.
