Many times throughout our lives we will be asked to stand up, to put ourselves out there and to be vulnerable as the next step in our evolution. You may have to take chances and embrace the possibility of being hurt or rejected, which can be tough and scary.
Going though major changes in life require us to step up and be present in a big way, whether it's the ending or beginning of a relationship, at work, with members of our family or wanting to make a major change within yourself.
Being gentle with yourself and remembering our simplest and most common denominator...to breathe, can go a long way towards eliminating stress during this process.
The song below has been resonating with me over the past week. I've played it over and over and respect how hauntingly it is written, as well as beautifully performed.
These two verses in particular strike a cord with me right now...
"2 am and I'm still awake writing a song, if I get it all down on paper it's no longer inside of me, threatening the life it belongs to."
"And I feel like I'm naked in front of a crowd cause these words are my diary screaming out loud and I know that you'll use them however you want to."
It can feel very intimidating to move forward with something big in your life...making a decision, taking action, deciding there is no going back or that it is time to move on.
If this is where you find yourself right now...
Here is an exercise from Dr. Andrew Weil's Spirit & Inspiration page which you may find helpful when you need to step out of being overwhelmed and jump back into your power once again.
The Stimulating Breath is adapted from a yogic breathing technique. Its aim is to raise vital energy and increase alertness.
If done properly, you may feel invigorated, comparable to the heightened awareness you feel after a good workout. You should feel the effort at the back of the neck, the diaphragm, the chest and the abdomen. Try this breathing exercise the next time you need an energy boost.
Remember to take the time to care for yourself and surround yourself with positive people and influences (always, but in particular when you need additional support), take it day by day, baby steps will get you there.
