At any point in our lives, we can all get overwhelmed or become paralyzed when thinking about how many things we have to manage, keep track of and get done.
Goal setting alone can actually become counterproductive, as when initially created, the goals seem so big; off in the distance and potentially impossible to achieve.
Whether you are starting a new business, taking on a higher level of client, initiating a new project or buying a new house...you need a strategy to work with in order to get things done.
You need a game plan which will allow you to utilize your strengths, keep you focused on the objectives and taking productive action until the results are achieved. When you work smart, it's not as overwhelming as you think. Break it down as outlined below, start taking consistent action and before you know it, you will be owning those goals!
Get it out of your head: When your brain delivers an idea or relevant thought, you need to capture it. Otherwise it floats around as an annoyance; something that you should be taking action on but aren't.
When an idea comes up, don't let it get away or become buried. Get it out of your head and into a place where you can refer back to it when reviewing the overall big picture.
What does your end result look like?: Once your project is complete, what does it look like?
For example...if you lose 25 or 50 pounds, not only will you feel better, but you will have more energy; your self esteem will soar and you will be looked upon as an inspiration for family and co workers...what will that do to impact other areas of your life?
Take a step back: In order to gain clarity, you need to take time to really understand what is the most important tasks are.
Get the tough ones out of the way first, then fill in the gaps.
Set a timer: This can be HUGE if you tend to get distracted or need to do something that you really don't feel like doing. Set a timer on your phone for 15, 20 or 30 minutes (whatever works for you) and commit to doing ONLY the task at hand.
For me it's generally writing an article, making calls, laying out the week, posting or doing web site modifications. Those things can be clunky...and very easily procrastinated upon. But without them, our overall business suffers.
My trusty timer allows me to make a game of it...it's called "Beat the timer!" if I do, then I take a break for a few additional minutes before moving on to the next thing. Yes, it sounds simple and maybe a little childish, but if you've ever gotten sucked into mindless internet surfing (and who hasn't) your timer has the potential to become your best friend.
Clear the clutter: In your head, in your home, in your life. This is an ongoing process, but a real biggie in terms of accomplishing more in your life. Start with your kitchen sink (trust me on this)...keep it clean and clear of dirty dishes.
When you purchase something new...get rid of (preferably donate, so that someone else can benefit) something that no longer serves you. I keep a donation box in my garage all the time...it makes this process even easier...when it's full I drop it of and start another.
