There is a LOT of information out there on how you should get fit and healthy...the interesting thing is that much of it can be confusing or contradictory, which can really make it difficult to decide which activity or activities to lean towards. If you throw physical challenges into the mix i.e. bad back, knees, shoulder issues etc. then you may have a real challenge determining that best way to move forward which will benefit, not debilitate, your body.
Let's take a look at a few misconceptions followed by a viable option for those looking for a no pain...cost effective solution to strengthening and toning their body.
Myth: If you’re not going to hit it hard and exercise intensely and daily, exercise is a waste of time.
Fact: As a rule, the human body burns fat most efficiently at our target heart rate (which is 80 percent of maximum heart rate). A workout commitment of 25 minutes 5 times a week can get you major results and change your entire body. Can you see yourself carving 25 minutes out of your day to get fit? Maybe before or after work... during your favorite TV show or right after dinner?
Pain can mean injury: If pain is sharp or happens suddenly during your workout, it could mean you've injured yourself. It can be a good policy to push yourself towards discomfort, but never pain. If you want to build new muscles or significantly enhance your fitness level, you may need to add new soreness producing (not pain producing) workouts or exercises. But you don’t have to feel the pressure to do that unless you are wanting to take things to the next level (weight loss, increased toning etc.).
Your body needs breaks: Even though being sore after a workout is sometimes a good thing for building muscles, and feeling a burn during a workout can often mean you’re going hard enough to build significant fitness, these same feelings can also be stressful to your body, your hormones, and your mind. Your body needs a break sometimes, it’s OK to have easy days and easy workouts without feeling like you always need to push yourself to the maximum!
