"The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become." - Heraclitus
Darren Hardy wrote a book called The Compound Effect which I enthusiastically read a number of years ago.
As an avid fan of constant and never ending improvement, I agreed with the philosophy of the power of Big Mo (Momentum) and the impact it can have on your life.
Here are my top 5 little things, that if acted on daily, can have a BIG impact on the overall quality of your life.
Stay positive: All of us have personal issues, tough times and the challenge of dealing with negative people from time to time. My experience has been that I cannot always control the things that happen in my life...but I can control my reaction to them.
When I am in charge of my mind...and not in a state of overwhelm or fear...I can rise above and deal with challenge MUCH more effectively which leads to an overall, better life experience. The mantra "All I need is within me now." has come in quite handy over the years when I needed to flip the switch from negative to positive.
Eat clean: Every decision you make about what to put into your mouth effects your mood, and over the long run, your self esteem. Focus on eating real food rather than fast foods with high calories and low nutritional value.
Move your body: Have some form of movement incorporated into your daily routine. Whether it's a walk, jog, hike, class at the gym, running around the yard with your kids. Make sure that you do something every day that gets you blood pumping and, more importantly, clears your head.
Reflect: Take time to envision how you would like a project, activity or your entire day to flow. While we can't control interruptions that happen throughout out day, it's important to check in with your mindset and be aware of what you are focusing on. Focus on the outcome being what you want rather than allowing the day and interruptions to run you.
Take action: Move towards activities that take you closer to your goals. Don't get caught up with to-do's that you may feel comfortable with but are actually time burners (checking email and social media frequently throughout the day...use the timer on your phone to stay on task...no multi tasking when the timer is on, just focus on the task at hand).
Set your goals and take baby steps towards them every day, acknowledge what is working and what is not, make modifications accordingly.
Once you get a day, week, month year then years behind you, you will be completely amazed at how your life can skyrocket in ways you never thought possible, simply by getting the power of Big Mo on your side!
