Kim Peterson, CEO CommonSenseHealth.org
You know when you have had a few days, weeks or months of letting things slide?
Like when your house or office is cluttered and unwelcoming. Maybe your weight is creeping up. You haven’t stuck to the things you said you were going to do (getting up early, consistently working out, planning your day the night before) and now you are feeling bad about yourself and your brain it telling you things like “See! You aren’t that type of person anyway. Deep down you are lazy and not worthy, so why put yourself through the pain of changing?”
No matter how stellar you are .... these issues creep up from time to time.
We get busy with a new opportunity or projects, we are dealing with sick or injured loved ones...or are trying to heal ourselves, maybe a new relationship or the ending of an old one has us off kilter...no matter the situation, things happen, so don’t beat yourself up.
Stop wallowing, procrastinating, feeling overwhelmed, bummed out and unworthy and START doing the following things to turn things around and get back up on that horse...better than before.
Start where you are: What is the biggest thing you can do right now to stop the madness? Maybe it’s clear off your desk and review your schedule. Maybe you've been running around putting out fires for weeks and you are fried!
Take a step back, clear your environment and calmly take a look at what needs to happen, then prioritize by which activities will give you the greatest result and start taking productive action!
Get some help: You may need help from family members (cleaning, cooking, shopping etc.) or team members (delegating tasks that you really shouldn’t be doing) or business mentors or coaches (helping you see the bigger picture and offer guidance on moving forward in the most effective way possible). Reach out to your network and get the help you need. It’s amazing how quickly things can turn around when you have support.
Refocus: Get a grip on that hamster wheel in your head. Get outside of yourself and count your blessings. Even in our darkest hours we have much to be grateful for. Focus on what’s going right. Flood yourself with positive messages … they are out there … and many are FREE. Go to Youtube and search “motivational speeches” ... that alone will keep you busy for weeks!
The bottom line is this. Life is a flow of opportunity and challenge, how well you surf the flow determines your overall happiness. So get good at surfing and things will start falling into place as if by magic.
