What are the strength and benefits of your habits?
Are you doing the things that will move you towards a destination you desire...or are you mindlessly (not intentionally) waffling and hoping that things will turn out alright.
When taking on a new project or goal, whether it’s starting or growing a new business, getting into shape, moving to a new location, choosing which type of education or coaching you need to get you to the next level, or climbing the corporate ladder you’d benefit from taking a look at the following categories before putting your game plan together.
Resources: What do you have in order to make this happen? This could come in the form of money, connections, education etc. What do you have to tap into that will help you get the job done? Take some time to think this through and list things out before creating the tasks that must happen. You may be further along than you think or it may take you longer than initially thought. But when you have your resources directly in front of you it’s easier to get a good feel for how to proceed.
Timing: What results will you get if you try to reap a harvest in the dead of winter?
It’s a lot easier to create an environment where timing is on your side. Not that amazing things can’t happen out of sync or in unexpected ways, but if you start a side business, for example, while still working your full-time job, you will minimize cash flow issues and the massive stress that comes along with not having the resources you need to pay your bills and put food on the table. Think it through. How can you use timing to work for, not against, your efforts?
Effort: Okay...this is the big gun. What do you need to do and not do...every day in order to make it happen? Let me give you a little cheat sheet as this is where most people get stuck.
Get up earlier
Put things in place to maintain a positive mindset
Always be looking for tools (books, podcasts, events, mentors etc.) that can make you better...more productive
Get enough sleep and nurture your body
Manage your time as effectively as possible - be intentional - reflect every morning and evening on what you accomplished and what you can to do to improve moving forward.
Get caught up in news and media drama
Watch hours of TV a day
Gossip and complain
Waste time on social media, surfing the net or dealing with mindless emails
Hang out with people who bring you down or do a lot of the above NOT DOs
None of us are perfect and accomplishing big things is never easy, but if you take a little time to focus on the resources, timing, and effort needed to bring it all together you will put yourself in the best position possible to achieve the results you really want.
